Just got back off holiday?
Question:and iv'e no cold water upstairs, the cistern won't fill up and the rest is just a trickle, any ideas
Answers:
Sticky filling valve, blocked pipe, burst pipe, stopcock turned down/off in the road, your first stopcock in the house turned down/off.
Have you asked the neighbours if they have the same problem? Normally the main stopcock out in the road supplies two houses.
is there a crack or hole in the cistern?
check the cold tank in the loft, perhaps the arm is stuck and not demanding water...
Did someone turn off the mains Valve before you went on holiday, Check.
fill ur cistrn with water ur self then flush that and see if anything happends , if not phone a plumer
book another holiday quick and ignore the problem
It is possible that the ball valve in the cold water tank has stuck but the sixty gallons that it contains would have taken a day or so to be used up.
Another possibility is that debris (possibly insulation) has got into the cold water tank and is blocking the outlet.
As a precaution, turn off the boiler and allow to cool in case the CH header tank has dried out. A sudden rush of water in a hot boiler is not good.
I'm not being facetious here, but did you turn the water off at the mains before going on holiday, then forget to turn it back on when you returned?
