Not Spongebob Squarepants
painted walls, depending on what they are painted with.

sealed walls, ie .PVA, tanked etc..

I guess most people did not read the 2nd bit.
A surface which will not allow liquids to penetrate.
NONE POROUS.
Your unclear second part, A sealing screed would be None Porous.
means wont suck in water
it won't soak up liquid.
the easiest definition is the opposite of porous - porous allows the passage of gas or liquid thru it so non-porous does not allow the passage of gas or liquid thru it. so glass is non-porous - wood is semi-porous and cotton is porous. pat
non porus means the serface will not allow liquids to penetrate the surface.I notice in your question you mention plastering backgrounds so if you are going to plaster on a non porus serface it may be you will have to scratch the surface in some way to give the plaster a key.
it means it has no pours ie not soaking stuff up.

or it has no paws so it is not a cat!
plastering backgrounds are generally .brickwork, breeze block/concrete block, plasterboard,EML,painted surfaces etc.For non porous backgrounds I assume you are reading what it says on the bag and are nervous about using the material for a particular surface. If you do need to plaster over non porous surfaces the solutions are (a)Pva painted on first.(b)EML fixed on the surface.(C)splatter coat of sand/cement to key it.. I would need to know exactly what you were going to plaster to fully answer you.. Non -Porous is simply materials that dont allow water penetration .Metal, painted walls etc
porus means soaks up liquid non porus means water resistant
