What should the readings be for a 3 1/2 ton ac unit for a home??
Question:im trying to refill my unit i have the r22 but i dont know what the high and low sides should read can anyone help me please
Answers:
@ 70 degrees ambient temperature, temperature of refrigerant should be about 38-40 degrees and 70 PSI on the low side and about 200-220 on the high side. If temperatures are higher outside, pressures will also be higher. You do should have at least a TYPE II certification from the EPA to handle refrigerants, but I'm sure you have one or you couldn't get the refrigerant. You could find a temperature/pressure chart online, but there is one on the lo side guage. There are factors that affect hi side temp. Dirty filter, dirty condenser coil, etc. But, rule of thumb , @ 70 degrees, ambient temperarture, temperature of refrigerant on the lo-side, should not be lower than 38-40, if lower, condensation could begin to freeze.10 degrees super heat is about right. With a pocket thermometer, get temperature of lo-side line, subtract it from refrigerant temperature on lo-side and this will give you super heat.Good luck. And fellas, he already has the refrigerant, he is not totally blind here. He does know a little about this.Probably epa certified. With the economy and gas the way it is. Can anyone blame him for wanting to save a few dollars? 1 less service call for a local tech will not kill anyone. This site was to help people out. I think he can do it!
Unfortunately, I can't. As required by Federal law one must possess a certification (E.P.A.) to possess or use refrigerants such as R-22.
Thumbs up to Raymond, good answer. But let me take also point out that if you don't know what your doing, you can really screw up your A/C and yourself for that matter. This is NOT a DIY project.
grab the low side line while you are charging and when it starts to cool slow your charge rate and wait for the line to feel like a cold can of coke fresh from the fridge. When it feels like the can your done.
