HomeElectrical ?Any help would be greatly appreciated?
Question:My electric in went out in half of my house, I flipped the breaker, it came on for a minute and went back out. Now my breaker knob is wobbly like it's broke, any body know what s going on?
Answers:
There is a load served by that breaker that is shorted to ground. Read the legend in the box and try to determine what outlets, fixed appliances, ect. are protected by that breaker.
It is a safety feature in the breaker to keep it from frying what ever you have plugged into an outlet or hooked up directly to a breaker(like your furnace, lights). Replace the breaker knob but make sure that your main breaker is off before you do it. If that does not help, the trouble is in the wiring or you have overloaded the circuit. Make sure that you don't have too many things on one breaker, like if you have more than 2 things on alot of your outlets. This will compromise your whole electrical system.
You have lost one leg of power. 240volts come into your house, 120 are not making it.
It sounds like your main breaker has crapped out.
Since removing and replacing a main breaker is messing with high amperage that is not protected with a breaker,
you should call a professional.
If that is the problem, it won't be too expensive. It should be quick to fix and you will probably pay the electricians minimum charge for coming out.
You are losing one leg of your 220 volt service eithier through a bad coonection to the main breaker or outside on main wires or you have a bad main breaker
You need a electrician
