no. any openings in the wall or roof need to be properly flashed to seal out any chance of water leaks. most styles of attic vents have a flange for mounting it, then your siding or roofing goes over it. the new vent should come with installation instructions and address proper sealing. good luck.
you are not being to precise about your attic.there are ways to put an attic fan in your attic if you have access to it or is it livable,also you would have to consider the outside of house whether its brick or wood to determine your framing for the fan.
