I have a whole house fan in my air conditioned house. I have been told that that it does more harm than good?

Question:I have been told that a whole house fan sucks damp dusty air into a house. The damp air ends up in the attic where it can cause mold and other problems. Since I have AC, I was told to get rid of the fan, before I have the attic insulated.any suggestions?

Answers:
A whole house fan should not be used while air conditioning is on. But I personally would not discard it. Think about using it on spring and fall days to get fresh air and cool your house the old fashion way. Just raise a few windows and cut off the AC and turn on the fan. You just might be surprised.

Just shut it off, they are great for when the weather is nice.
My Opinion!. I grew up with whole house fans and central heat only. If I had a choice now days ( depends what kind of climate you have) I would have both types of cooling. I would use the whole house fan in spring and fall. as humidity and heat increase I would close up house and use the refrigerated air cooling - dehumidifying system.
Yes whole house fans do pull in dust and bugs will come in when you open doors but what the heck. Attics are vented ( or should be!) therefore I personally wouldn't worry about "Mold/Fungus" . Hope this helps you. {:~)
I would agree with the answers you've received so far, however, would add this. Make sure that you have some type of attic venting (ridge vent, "whirly-bird" roof turbines, power vent, etc.). I had a whole-house fan, and it was great in the Spring and Fall. The whole-house fan will pull the air from open windows etc. up to it, creating a nice breeze inside the house, however once the air gets up into the actual attic, it needs to be vented to outside air.
