Is it a good idea to put hot food straight into the freezer?

Question:I realize that there are hygiene issues with food in the freezer being heated up but are there also dangers with the freezer failing mechanically if too much heat is introduced at one time?

Answers:
You can break the compressor (the thing that sucks all the heat out).

Same as leaving the freezer door open, if you leave hot food in the freezer you'll end up overworking the compressor, and it could blow.

NO. youve answererd your own question
Putting hot food in the freezer certainly makes it have to work hard to maintain the temperature...therefore this should be reason enough not to do it.

Just think of the additional energy costs that you are paying by doing this.freezers are not cheap to run anyway and paying for them to convert a hot meal into a ball of ice is probably the most expensive of them all..

So come on.leave the cooked meal on the side for an hour or two and then freeze it.it can't be that hard to do!
no it's not - i don't no all the reasons why but 1 is that it will raise the temp of the freezer
NO
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
hunny hunny hunny the answer is a big no no, bless you it will heat up stuff in the freezer then cool down to quick surely you can get food poisioning yeah??? xxxxxxxxxxxx
Always let it cool completely before putting it in the fridge or freezer.
Always let the food cool in a moderate timeframe before you throw it into the freezer to avoid compromising the foods taste, texture and safety.Freezing it while hot ... that can cause bacterial issues in food and create food poisoning.
Never put hot food into the freezer or fridge!!
Not a good idea at all.
No - the freezer will get too warm and then have to work harder to compensate. This could then result in over-freezing in some parts of the freezer, which doesn't do the freezer any good! Plus, as you've already said, there are hygiene issues there that could result in food poisoning, so it's a no on every count.
no it heats everything else up
Its a great idea if you want food poisoning and to die a horribly painful death. Take it you didn't do Home Ec. at school.
Hot food in the freezer will cause the unit to run more. The moisture from the food will also form frost inside the freezer.
is this a real question?

the answer is no unlees it is depleted uranium
Yes you can put hot food into a freezer or fridge. That is the point of both of them to cool food. Depending on the amount of hot food, you might want to seperate it into smaller portions. The longer food sets on the counter cooling the more chance it has of picking up germs and bacteria. Germs grow very fast on "warm food". High heat will kill most germs and cooling leftover quickly slows germ growth. Puuting hot food into a freezer will not give you food poisoning.
