Staining a pine staircase - problems with glue?

Question:We've just finished a staircase and have glue residue (D3 PVA) on the pine that we wanted to stain. It wasn't obvious before we stained but it is now! I did sandpaper before I stained, but I've a feeling the glue has penetrated deep into the wood. Is there any way this gluey wood will take a stain?

Answers:
Better sanding is all that's necessary.

you should get the p.v.a. off, it acts like a sealer.
Option:- get some artists colour (oil preferred) touch up the bits the stain did not lie on. Then stain over or varnish.
No, you have to sand more or start over. Sorry
use nitromorse, this will strip back any problems so you can start fresh , it will even get rid of any glue issues
