Running toilet?

Question:My toilet runs every few minutes..it's driving me nuts and has raised my water bill by at least $20 a month. How can I fix this problem?

Answers:
In your tank the flapper seats on the water outlet at the base of the tank. You can see this by flushing it while the lid is off. If the flapper does not seat well on the hole, or if there is some debris on either, it will slowly leak. When the level gets 1-2" lower than a full tank it will auto fill itself to the proper level. That is why when it runs it does not run for long. Try cleaning the bottom of flapper and the edges of hole and it should solve the problem. If not, replace the flapper, it pops right on/off and is an inexpensive Home Depot item. Good luck

bend the arm down that the float is attached to....if that doesn't work you should call a plumber.
1, make sure the arm on the outside of the toilet is always up when you are done.
2. get a new toilet
3. go to menards or a place like that..and get new guts for the inside- so it quits.
you probably have a bad ball seat.go to Menard's and buy he new stuff (toilet insides for the back of tank) they will tell you exactly what you need and how to do it, it is a very simple process...good luck
In your tank the 'bulb' is not closing completely. Cheaper to buy another and save the water. It is easy to install. 68 years and do my own.
all you have to do is get a new flapper or check the one that is in there. lift the lid and make sure that the chain is not kinked. most of the time it is just that the chain has come undone from the pinning and is in the drain. if not that then the fill valve is set too high. hope it helps.
1. If it stops after jiggling the flush handle, then the chain may be too loose or the strraight wires bent;

2. If a ball stopper, feel around the bottom of it for indentations or color coming off on your hands - it's very old and needs replacing;

3. If the water level rises above the overflow tube (going straight up and maybe having a short tube going into it), then the stop valve ball needs to be bent lower to make it stop the incoming water flow sooner or you may need a higher overflow tube.

4. Call someone who knows something about toilet tanks - this is not rocket science.
it sounds like you will have to replace the insides of the water tank it is not very hard to do
