How do I make my red-margined dracaena shorter without killing it?

Question:I have a Red Margined Dracaena that has reached the ceiling, I don't want to just chop off the top of it, but pretty soon I won't be able to keep it in my house and our winters are too cold to plant it outside. Any suggestions?

There are only two options, lower the base, or chop the top. :(
