Why do air conditioning tines inside the grill get bent?

Question:I have a brand new air conditioning unit and the small metal rows of openings just inside are getting bent - how does that happen? It's covered with a grill.

Answers:
Those are the radiator fins, they are so delicate that the lighttest touch cna bend them. Usually they willget tweakewd when you install the AC. Even the casing pressing against them will cause a bend. The only way to avoid it is to be so very carefull installing it. You can try to smooth them out ny slipping a flat head screwdriver between them. Ht ususally works for mw but you will never get it perfect.

Probably just dings from lawnmower throwing rocks (or kids throwing rocks), hailstones, winter ice damage, running into it with a mower and a half dozen ways I can't think of right now. The good news is manufactures anticipate this and use coils larger than needed. But, if things literally get too bent out of shape, you can go to a refrigeration supply house and buy a 'fin comb' for about $5. Just remove the grill and pull the comb through the fins to straighten. RScott
These are very important that they stay as straight as possible for the proper operation of your condensor unit.
Is it possible they are being bent while washing the unit out with the garden hose water pressure can very easily bend these fins.??
little children and teens love to mess up units like that
you need a fin comb
