Garbage disposal impellers feel very loose, runs noisy, is it fixable?
Question:I replaced our continuous-feed disposal about 3 years ago (a 0.5 hp In-sink-erator Badger 5). Last year, a member of my family unwittingly ran it while a piece of hard plastic was in it, and pieces jammed b/n the flywheel and inner wall. I couldn't clear it, and left it that way rather than spend more money on it.
I finally figured out how to release the jam last week. It runs but I suspect that the noise is from loose impellers scraping and will either destroy the fly wheel, or fly off. Is this fixable?
Thanks,

Go with the flow.the blades need to float free, and should make noise ( quiet when disposal belly is full of water!), make sure water is always running while disposal is running. Check with a FLASHLIGHT...to see if there is more debris flopping around, if it's clear run it until it quits...three years is good for a 0.5 hp "in-sink-erater", when it dies. buy another cheepo. Don't spend a whole lot on a disposal, spend just a wee bit more on a screen guard for the drain when you aren't running the disposal.
NO, you iether bent the shaft or damaged the motor bearings.
maybe it would be covered under warrantee. Check with your local plumber or plumbing supply house.
I Think its time for a new one.I've never been able to fix an IN-SINK-ERATER. Never. Go to www.insinkerater.com for trouble shooting, product knowlage, suppot and online repair . They will help you troubleshoot your disposal. They made them! Bye Now!
Why buy such a crappy unit? Should have spent the $100 more and bought a good unit. Badger is the low end model line of Insinkerator. Next time spend the money and buy a Waste King 1 horsepower. You won't have grief. Induction motor and auto-reversible. You were penny wise and pound foolish.
One final, are you sure you got ALL the hard plastic out? If not, the noise you hear could be the leftovers slowly being chipped away.
