How to insulate a home built in 1960?

Question:I am buying a house built back in 1960s as a summer home. I want to add more eco friendly insulation without having to rip down the walls. I have heard of companies that blow bits of newspaper into the walls but I have no idea who would even do that where I live (poconos, pa) Are there any other suggestions out there for making my home well insulated. I also forgot to mention there is just a dirt crawl space with newer insulation underneath.

Answers:
Yes, they can cut small holes in the walls and blow cellulose (the insulation you were talking about) into them.

The best thing you could do would be to hire an energy rater or home performace expert to tell you the best way to make your house more energy efficient. They have a lot of sophisticated equipment, like blower doors, and knowledge of how adding insulation changes things like air flow and moisture levels. Adding insulation without adding proper ventilation can cause problems. Also, heat escapes in places other than through the walls. An energy rater could tell you the most cost effective improvements for saving energy.

Yes, blown in works, call insulators and ask if they do this, I'm sure they do, I'm in WV. Check the attic for insulation.
i would use the spray in foam. same thing.. drill holes insert rod and pull it out as it fills. better R value
