No power still to garage.?

Question:There are no GFI outlets on this circuit. I bought a circuit anaylzer and it shows open ground. I thought it would have shown open neutral but not. I do have 120v to all outlets but nothing works when plugged in. If I plug in a light fixture the neon tester goes out completely. What know?

Answers:
USA Not enough info. You have 120 volts - measured where? At the receptacle - tested from hot to neutral or hot to ground? If you have 120 volts hot to ground, then you probably have an open neutral. Start at the breaker box. Make sure the connections are tight on the hot, neutral and ground. Then go to the first receptacle, then the next and so on, checking each one.

You really don't have power at the outlets. Check the power at the breaker. if it goes away when you plug in the light, the breaker is bad and possabilty miswired.
Call an electrician. We had the same garage. There was a wire some where in the wall that melted. We did have a GFI but that failed. Call a Electrician just to be safe .I'm glad we did before we had a fire. Bye
An open ground shouldn't cause the outlets not to work. I also think it's a good idea to call an electrician.
