Plaster or Sheet Rock?

Question:I am buying a house that has horrible ugly paneling from floor to ceiling in every room. Behind it the walls are plaster.

The paneling is coming off no matter what.

Assuming the plaster is in decent shape and only needs to be spackled and painted.

Am I better off fixing the existing plaster, or is it better to tear it down and put sheet rock in its place?

Answers:
could be several reasons that they put the panneling up, it is in good shape, you should be able to save it, but look for areas where the old paint has maybe peeled or bubbled, you may have some issues with new paint doing the same, and might want to check, depending on how old the house is, if the paint that is on it is lead based, if it is, get rid of it, also check for mold and mildew issues

Why if ti is decent shape would you tear it down patch it
If the plaster is in good shape keep it the way it is. Why spend money when you don't have too.
I had the same situation in my house. Some of the plaster was saveable, some was not. But I sheetrocked all the perimeter walls and insulated while I had them open.
why take the paneling off? use 1/4 or 3/8 Sheetrock quality construction adhesive and 1 inch Sr screws to resurface the walls and save the trouble of demo/clean up/disposal
