Our new potable water hose for our tailer seems to make the water taste bad-chemical. Ideas?
Question:We put a new potable water hose on our travel trailers fresh water supply. We have flushed the system several times but still get a foul taste. Water through a regular rubber garden hose from sears tastes better. Can we remedy this or must we replace with another brand?
Answers:
If you actually purchased a Drinking water (Potable water) hose rated by the USFDA or NSF, it should not be imparting taste.
Have you tasted the water coming out of the source to which the hose is connected?
Is it without the taste to which you refer?
Have you changed gaskets or are you using gaskets that did not come with the Drinking water hose?
If you are getting the taste through the hose, and do not have it at the source, and this existed as soon as you first used the hose, then I reccomend you return it.
You will certainly need a new hose.

run about a half gallon through the hose before drinking the water. What sits in the hose will taste bad, especially on a hot day.
Most rubber hoses are made with lead and shouldn't be used for drinking. So make sure your hose is a white hose or one that is for drinking water. Also put some water in a container that you can drink from. It could be your tank that has built up with some bacteria and may need to be bleached and flushed.
