It can't be recycled where I live and they tell us just to throw it out in the garbage. You would have to check to see if it can be recycled in your area or if it just goes in the trash. Putting it in a box probably would be a good idea before putting it in the garbage.
Put it in a cardboard box before putting it in the garbage.
You can do lamps and ornaments pasting the glass with plaster.
If you don't need it, offer it to craft shops or glassmakers.
Otherwise, try to give it to somebody else who might be interested in it. Check out the freecycle.org network in your area.
Send it to the recycling plant. Reusing broken glass is too dangerous, and the landfills are full enough.
My friend's step-mom works with glass and can make jewlery out of it. Try and see if you can find places like that where you live.
What a GREAT idea Ana F!! Look up stained glass dealers in your area. Once I thought I wanted to do stained glass and had accumulated quite a bit of stained glass. When I decided I REALLY wasn't every going to pursue that hobby, a local stained glass dealer was willing to take it off my hands. Even though your stuff isn't stained glass, clear glass is also useful in projects.
Take it, add in some beer bottles for a mosaic look, and melt edges with mini- blow torch and wala(sp)! you have a bunch of glass! you can also put wire with glass and make beads, melt the glass around the wire with the blow torch. don't be dumb and do it inside or on a wooden table. Yahoo search it. you should be able to find tons of stuff.
There should be a recycling depot or a hazardous material site around. Old window glass normally does not cut very well, and the sharp edges are a danger to sanitation workers.
If you really have a lot of it a glass factory might be interested in remelting it, maybe. I can remember when Dominion Glass in Toronto announced that they would accept all glass in their furnaces. But you are most likely to be taking it as recyclable or hazrdous.
