How much power is my air conditioner using?

Question:It's 5050 BTUs. That, doesn't really tell me much. What should i be looking for in order to find out it's normal usage?

Answers:
Don't know what you want to know. That unit should run at about 500 to 550 watts normally. Same as running 5 or 6 100 watt light bulbs. Look at the name plate and find the volts and amps. Multiply them to find the watts. 500 watts for an hour is 500/watt hours. 2 hours is a kilowatt. Look on your electric bill to find the cost per kilowatt. Hope that helps.

If it doesn't get the air cool within an hour you may need freon or insulation or maybe a new filter. As for how much it costs to run, check your energy bill and figure what it normally costs without it.
your electric bill
5050 BTU is the duty of your AC. What you need to look for is Wattage. A number like 500 Watt or 2 kW.
