When hanging sheetrock why is it important to leave a half inch from the floor and do you really have to?
Question:
Answers:
Leaving a gap between the floor and drywall is for three good reasons 1) to allow for settlement of the house and will help prevent pressure pushing up unto the drywall creating bulging and cracking. 2) it allow you to get a hold of the edge of the drywall to jack the drywall up tight to keep tight joints 3) it helps prevent the drywall from doing a wick effect if you have water on the floor.
The space is for your trim moulding.
You realy should, and use spacer to set sheet on then pull out when secured w/two screws. Not only does it give room for expansion it will be covered w/baseboard trim.
It is so moisture from the floor doesn't absorb into the drywall and cause powdering or MOLD. Yes you should. It's the way.
Now you know!
it makes installation easier (imagine having to trim every bottom piece in a house.and helps to prevent moisture from being wicked at the bottom
