What is the best way to repair chipped/rotted areas of wood on a shed?
Question:I would like to re-stain my shed. Before I stain,I'd like to patch up the areas where the wood has started to peel or rot partially due to dirt being pressed up for a period of time or just the elements taking their toll on the wood.
Should I use a stainable wood filler and sand? Does it have to be primed before staining with a semi-transparent stain?
Answers:
Unfortunately the wood filler will likely take the stain differently from the wood. If you can't replace the wood section then consider an opaque stain or standard paint product.
If the shed is a "store bought" type there may be a warranty on it. In that case you may be able to hae the installer repair. Also, many manufacturers are specific on which type of paint or coating is required to keep the warranty intact.
we resided our shed right over the old stuff and then stained it.
