Dripping on window sill?
Question:we have had all sofits and gutters replaced and they have put a join in right above the window we complained but they wont come back, it is 2 years ago now, but all of a sudden its started dripping on window sill when raining my husband has put a piece of wood across the window at the top and sealed it and it seems to be overhanging but it still is managing to get through in another place and it constantly drips when it rains and its driving me mad, can anyone give me any sensible solutions to this problem,
Answers:
Silicone, silicone, silicone. . .
Silicone is great for many things, not for gutters. Gutters expand and contract just a bit more than silicone can deal with. Sometimes it will work, sometimes it will pull loose over time.
That is why we have gutter caulk. Same idea, go get a tube and reseal the joint on a nice dry day. Make sure the gutter is clean. Apply a generous bead at the joint. Use a putty knife to work it into the joint just a bit and smooth it off so the water can run over it. You don't want a big hump to make the water puddle. If the gutter is put together with a connector (instead of just being lapped over), make sure to get both sides.
Perhaps your gutter guy used silicone in the first place. Could be why it is leaking now.
I would suggest using a silicon caulk on the gutter itself.
The joint above your window probably separated slightly over time. The solution would be to re-seal the joint using a silicone sealer. It will seal and also stay flexible so it is harder to crack. Make sure it is a silicone for outdoor use. Also be sure to clean joint very well before re-sealing.
On a dry day you will need a ladder to reach the join also a mastic gun,Buy a tube of silicone sealant and unclip the joint and where the rubber seals are put silicone on them then clip back together this will stop the joint from leaking.Be carefull on the ladder.
is it possible to re-position the join by lengthening one side of the guttering pipe so that the joint is away from the window sill or if access is a bit of a problem, take of the join and renew it.they are just snap in fittings and a real gift to work with.the people that done the job are obviously a bunch of @*%*(*!$ and should be reported to rogue traders.
