Cost of Cathedral Ceilings Vs. Regular Ceilings, heating & cooling etc.?
Question:I am looking into purchasing a home and found a beautiful home, in my price range, but it has Cathedral ceilings, I am afraid my electric will be high when the air conditioning is on and vice versa with the heat, any suggestions.
Thanks!!
Answers:
The taller ceilings will raise your bill to heat and cool. How much depends on the insulation "R" value (Insulation value is commonly referred to as resistance-value.) in there, the climate your in and type of air flow disbursement you have.
Like the 1st response you got, call the utilities up for that home and get that information so you know what your getting into on average bills.
You can call your own specialist to check the house for possible future repairs that will be needed. Always a wise thing to do before any home purchase.
You got options how to make the air "tightness" and R value greater. Is there ceiling fans? types of windows? All this plays a part on house energy efficient the home is. The US government gives tax breaks on going green and insulating.
Good Luck!
Its always gonna be that way, simple enough more air space the more its gonna take to heat it or cool it no matter what people say ! ! call the electric company and tell them you what to know what the monthly bill is and they will tell you and if they ask for what tell them you are thinking about renting it and want to know..
