Above ground swimming pool help?

Question:we are opening our pool and have the water level where it should be. our pressure on the pump is awesome and all is good until we try to attach the hose so we can vaccum. then the pump runs dry, but we can't find any obstructions in the hose. garden hose sent water clear thru and when we blow on one end air comes out the other. any thoughts?

Answers:
You have to fill the vacuum hose with water prior to hooking it up to the filter outlet. You can either just hold one end and feed the hose down into the water until full or you can place one end over the inlet to the pool and it will force water through.

The pressure will drop considerably when you hook up the vacuum so don't worry if this happens.

*EDIT*
Yes, any hole in the line will allow water into the pump itself. Try using the hose without the filter head and see if that causes the same problem. Put your hand over the end of the hose, etc.

Also, I forgot to mention that you need to block off any and all skimmers except the one you are using to vacuum with. Failure to do this will result in air sucking into the system. A tennis ball works real well for this ;-)

have you tried filling up the vaccum hose with water first. when pump runs dry it looses it suction.
It sounds as if you are pulling air through your vacuum hose, I found this to be a problem with mine so I siliconed both ends, even though one end stays submerged. The hose to adapter is where it was pulling air.
