Circuit breaker problem?
Question:Can a circuit breaker still be bad if I tested it for continuity and it was ok and tested for voltage and that was ok? None of the resepticles work but they do show voltage. Circuit analyzer also shows open ground only because it is a old house(no ground). It does NOT show open neutral as I suspected it would.
Answers:
Does the circuit analyzer still show a voltage when a load is plugged into the receptacle? If so, the receptacle should still be working. If not, then you've got a break in the wiring. In either case, the circuit breaker is probably OK.
Starting at the breaker panel, check the wiring to make sure that all screw connections are tight and that splices with wire nuts have not come loose. Go receptacle by receptacle to the end of the wiring.
no
if you got voltage to ground when the breaker is installed in the panel or voltage to nuetral and it test good for continuity
then i would suspect open nuetral
do you have access to a solienoid based tester ( AKA Wiggy )
as it will vibrate and not give off ghost readings or phantom voltage, either you have current or not. if you circuit tester shows voltage present but you wiggy does not show hot to nuetral, than either you have an open nuetral ( most likely ) or a open hot, if it's a shared nuetral circuit and you might be getting inductive readings on the nuetral side.
yes, the house can be wired wrong and the current side tracked
