I just bought a tanning bed and on the back where the electrical goes in it says 240v 1O, what does this mean?
Question:Im trying to wire this up and Im not sure if this means that the bed is 3 phase or not.
Answers:
The 240v 1O notation means 240 volts, single (one) phase. Actually the symbol should be "Ø", not "O". This is the same power used by electric clothes dryers, electric ranges, ovens, and cooktops, and by the condensing unit for central air conditioning.
In the United States, it is NOT the power you get out of a wall receptacle, which is 120 volts, single phase. You have to have a special connection to the breaker panel. It's not a big deal, but since you don't appear to have electrical experience, you'd better hire an electrician.
If you are in Europe, you can probably plug it right in to your wall outlet.
No, that means its single phase, 240 volts.
I'm assuming that the "O" after the number 1 actually has a slash through it. That is the symbol for "phase" thus yours is a single-phase appliance. If it were three-phase, it would say 3O (there again with a slash through the "O")
It is 240 volts, so you will need a 240 volt (double) breaker feeding it (just like your oven, stove & electric clothes dryer). It should also show the amp draw, make sure you use sufficiently sized wire for the tanning bed.
Hope this helps!
240 volt-10 amps.
Plug it in, plug it in.
Don't rig anything up, make sure your cord end and outlet match, then, tan away.
Not very green, by the way. The Al Gore police may be around, so conserve.
240 volts, Single-phase. 2 hots and a ground.
