Cannot Change Light Globe?
Question:I cannot change a light globe. I am 25 years old and it has always been done for me. I have never been there when the light has blown or something, I am never around. However one blew while I was home alone last week and I paniced. I tried to change it but the top metal bit broke off and I couldn’t get it out. Does this happen often or is it just me? lol. I feel like a complete idiot. ONLY PEOPLE WHO WANT TO HELP PLEASE.
Answers:
You tried to change your globe-- A complete idiot would just sit around in the dark. Just make sure the light is off at the switch and try again. It will be easy the next time.
Don't worry. It can happen. What you do is make sure the light is switched off at wall. Then get a pair of pliers and grip edge of broken metal rim.Turn either clockwise or anti-clockwise, and it should come out. When you put the new bulb in, just feel it turn and hold. Get yourself the Readers dIgest book of home help ideas, and above all please don't get upset. We all have to learn.
Sometimes the metal top of the bulb will get stuck in the socket and then come off when the bulb is turned, especially if the bulb is old or was screwed in too tight.
You'll need to remove the metal part from the socket before you can put a new bulb in. First, MAKE SURE THE LIGHT IS TURNED OFF. If it is in a lamp plugged into the wall, unplug it. Then, using a thin-nosed or needle nose pair of plyers, grab onto the edge of the metal part and start to turn it counter-clockwise (this is oposite the way a clock hands turn) It will be tight at first, but keep trying. Eventually the metal part will start to turn and it will get easier to move as it gets further out of the socket. If you can't grab it with the plyers, try putting the plyers into the metal part and open the plyers all the way inside so they put tight pressure on the inside of the metal part and try turning. If you don't have plyers, try a pair of scissors. Or you may be able to get some wooden chopsticks inside and try turning.
Once you have the metal part out, screw in a new bulb, turning the opposite way (turning clockwise, the same way the hands on a clock move) Plug in your lamp or turn on the light switch and you should have light!
Good Luck!
Turn light switch OFF. Make certain it's off.
Cut a medium sized potato in half.
Push the potato into the broken light socket.
Turn the potato counterclockwise as you are looking into the socket and the broken part will come out.
Then screw a new bulb into the socket turning the bulb clockwise.
