How do you make a soakaway to take rainwater from the roof?

Question:how do you design a soakaway to take some of the rainwater from a conventional bungalow roof

Answers:
You dig a pit 4ft x 4ft x6ft deep...fill bottom half with hardcore,top half with pebbles.

the size of the soakaway depends on the drainage of the surrounding ground. try a test hole and pour a bucket of water into it and see how quickly it drains away
Hello, the first reply is correct, I do not know how old your property is, or where you are located. In a normal system the rainwater is directed to the street drains then recycled. If your out in 'the sticks', they all have their own methods of water dispersal. hope this helps. Ps you could always get an old, ex chemical, plastic 44 gallon drum and use it to collect the rainwater for washing the car and watering the garden, as I do.
dig a square pit 3 mtrs from house the further the beter.
dont dig below water table
