Old tarmac drive, eroded, not level and mixed with earth, how do i level it and cover with pebbles?
Question:Some of the drive is solid, it's just the corner section, if i just add pebbles i would get puddles when raining. Thanks for any ideas, yeah tarmac is too expensive...

Hello, go to your local garden/builders yard and get a quote for 1/4 to dust granite chippings. Tip them out on the drive and rake them level. It looks classic, hides the leaks of the car and can be refreshed every year as needed. It is far less than the price of tarmac, and easily applied. I know I use it, Hope this helps.
if its flat then put down layer of dry concrete about 2 inches thick.then cover with gravel and level of.water gravel lightly.a new bag of gravel every year will be enough.gravel cheapest at focus diy in smallish bags.
If you dont park on it take a couple of inches out, concrete it and put pebbles over, otherwise you need to dig down about 8 inches, put in minimum 4 inches hardcore and minimum 4 inches concrete!
Don't be a cheapskate in the first place and get pikeys to tarmac your drive!
If most of the base ( bed) under the Tarmac -Asphalt here in the States- is still good, a reliable driveway contractor should be able to dig washed out corner, fill with packed gravel and re top. Try getting prices for this procedure.
I have had an asphalt driveway (tarmac) resurfaced using hot liquid asphalt applied mechanically over old surface and immediately spreading in 2 inches of pea gravel for a new top surface. The asphalt softens the old surface below, and builds a bond. It also holds the new gravel embedded on top as it cools.
This procedure is used to build roads in rural New England but it is NOT a Do -it- yourself project. Requires a reliable contractor. Ia anyone doing similar work during the summer months in your area? If so, check with them for a quote.
