Why is my water cooler frozen?
Question:A few weeks ago I tried to get some water from my water cooler and nothing came out despite the fact that there was plenty of water in the 5 gallon bottle. I realized a few moments later that the water in the "well" had frozen and nothing could come out. I unplugged it and let it thaw out. The next day I plugged it back in and several hours later it froze again. I do not rent this unit so I don't have a contract to fall back on. Is it a problem with the thermostat? Is it fixable? The unit was probably $80 brand new and is 3 years old or so. It simply says Arizona on the front of it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Answers:
Unplug it.
Check for any access panels that could unclip or unscrew.
Look for any thermo adjustability.
Namely a know or screwhead. It's going to be smallish if there. Maybe you have adjustment and can do trial and error to get warmer.
If not look at where the cooling occurs and see if you can seperate the water from the 'cooler' part. more distance =lesss cooling. If its a pipe be careful moving it (don't break it!)
It none of this then see if you can get thin insulation between cooler/water so make it less effecient.
If you want it quick buy an on/off cycling timer and have it
run/stop regularly.
good luck and use caution
U CANT TRUST ANYTHING FROM ARIZONA, NEXT TIME TRY NEW MEXICO
These little coolers have thermostats on them. On the back there will be a label with some tech info. This diagram will show where the thermostat is. It will be located close to the water reservoir. Look for a little copper tube and some wires going to it.
Some will tell you which way to turn the screw to adjust them and others will leave you guessing.
Since it just started doing this it might be that the thermostat has failed and you will need a new one. If that is the case try an HVACR supply house. The other thing that could cause this is if you moved to a different elevation like from Denver to Portland. In that case you just need to adjust it
