Is re-magneticizing the refrigerator door possible?

Question:My refrigerator door doesn't close quite as tightly as it once did. It seems that the magnetic fields between the door and the body of the frig are not as strong lately. Is there a way that I can rejuvenate the pull between the two?

Answers:
No! There are a couple of possible problems to check before you replace the door gasket, but if these do NOT help, then the only recourse is replacement. First, make sure that the door actually closes all the way on its own... Nothing stopping it, inside, the kick plate on the bottom is in the right place, the bottom tray in the door is not "dragging"(this last could mean the door is out of alignment), things of this nature. Next, check the seal on the hinge side... With the door closed, look down it. Does it look the same shape as the other side?If not, it could be hanging and causing the door not to close correctly. If the last is true, do the last step I'm giving, THEN gently close the door and with a small screw driver, table knie, putty knife, something flat... do this: gently work the gasket back on the frame of the fridge until the door is closed and the gasket looks like the other side, then use your hair dryer in a sweeping motion to heat the gasket along its entire lenght. Leave the door closed until the gasket cools. This should reshape it to the correct shape. Now, the last step. Clean the door gasket on the hinge side and the area that it contacts on the fridge with a dishcloth. Clean it well, and spread a thin layer of petrolium jelly(Vaselene) all down the gasket on that side. This will help the gasket slide when the door is shut.
As I said, if this does not cure the problem, you need a new gasket. (The same proceedure works on the freezer door).

Hope this helps...

magnetics? I never heard of refrigerator doors being magnetic. normally what you have is a door seal, these do tend to wear down. also make sure your refrigerator is level as this may cause the door to want to open.
