Does any one know if you have to vent a dishwasher drain?

Question:

Answers:
Your kitchen sink should definitely be vented and the dishwasher is thus vented by joining the sink drain.
A dishwasher doesn't need to be vented until this point because a pump pushes water out of the machine.
Vents allow for proper flow by allowing the air in the drain to move out of the way when water displaces it. Methane (sewer gas) is stopped by traps.

all drains should be vented to prevent methane gas buildup
Unless you live somewhere seriously out in the sticks, all drains have to be vented although sinks and dishwashers can share the same vent.
A P-trap is created by dooping the drain hose up over the unit and the venting is provided with the drain that you drop it into ie through the disposal or sink drain
Usually there is a vent located at the sink with a cap on it and sometimes gets clogged.
yes all drains need air to push down the water.
I had mine removed because of the mess that was made. If the vent opening is not facing the sink, you will find water all over your counter. I have never had the dishwasher drain vented in my previous homes. My dishwasher now works just like the previous ones. The water will back into the sink with the disposal, then drain out. No big deal.
Seeing it usually ties in to the sink trap which is vented I don't see an issue. If its tied in on any house plumbing it is vented. My concern would be sewer gases backing up. I would choose the top side of an existing trap or install one if no access is available.
