Our well is no longer drawing water?
Question:Last night, the well pump kept cycling on and off for about 5 seconds at a time for no reason, so my husband cut the power so the pump didn't burn out.
When we turned the power back on this morning, no water -
Just looking for ideas on what may have caused this, and also, if anyone has any ideas on what it may cost - we have a call in to a well/water pump service, but I'd like to get some ideas so we aren't going in to this blind.
Thanks!

you have a leak.most likely the footvalve is leaking water if it is a jet pump..or there is a hole in the lines going into the welll.the cost can vary depending on what is actually leaking water and what the companies there charge to perform this service...probably somewhere in the 200 to 300 dollar range.service call about 50 to 80 dollars plus 25 to 40 dollars an hour labor plus parts...footvalve 10 to 20 dollars.100 ft of 1 inch plastic pipe 29 to 38 dollars...100ft of 11/4 plastic pipe 32 to 45 dollars plus clamps.if your well was going dry the pump would not cycle on and off it would just pump good until it ran out of water then you would notice a change in the way the pump sounds when running and it would contuine to run until either enough water came in well and allowed it to reach its kick off pressure or you turn it off
Your well has run dry. Welcome to the world of Global Warming!
maybe the water table dropped
Mine is doing the same thing. I live in the drought stricken south and my husband said it's because of the water table being so low. I don't know if this is correct but would be interested to know what they tell you. Hope it's nothing serious.
