Help with my sliding door. Noise.?
Question:The sliding door on my patio is in my opinion loud. Is there something I can do to cut the noise down when the door is shut and opened? I have tried wd-40.
Answers:
Maybe, maybe not. Some SGD`s are just inherently "noisy". Some of it depends on how your threshold is constructed. If it has any hollow voids under it, it will act like a sounding board.
If your bearings in your rollers start getting dry all the little balls clatter together.
Not a whole lot that can be done about the threshold, but the rollers can be lubricated or replaced. As stated previously, DON`T USE WD40!! I always recomend silicone in an aerosol. I also recomend vacuuming the threshold at least once a month, more if it`s a high traffic area and you have pets and kids.
If the rollers need replaced, I would definately call a professional.
Baby oil works really good..we used it and now they make no noise.
where all did you put the wd40 though?
Try this: open the door. spray A WHOLE BUNCH of wd40 on the top and bottom tracks. (the whole length of where the door rested closed). now open and shut the door a whole bunch to work that wd40 in there.
You might try using graphite; it's good for metal-on-metal problems.
Good luck!
I think WD 40 would make it even worse.
Most of these doors have nylon rollers under them. WD 40 destroys nylon and many other plastics.
You now most likely will have to take the door out and replace the roller and bracket. This is not difficult to do and not very expensive. When buying the new rollers get the best you can that will fit that door.
You should have help removing the door as they can be a little heavy and difficult for one.
Adjust the rollers. There are screws on the this edge of the door and if you adjust those it should solve your problem. DO NOT USE WD 40 or OILs. They attract dust and will mess up your rollers. The dust and grit sticks to the oil, transfers to the roller and just begins working on your roller like sand paper.
Try White Lithium Grease (see an auto parts store) or Graphite Lubricant .
