Swimming in regular clothes instead of a swim suit in our inground pool?
Question:My older kids want to wear street clothes over their suits. Is there any reason I shouldn't let them? For instance, will the chemical ruin these clothes or will the fibers ruin the pump/filter equipment?
Answers:
I was lucky enough to grow up in a home with an inground (outdoor) pool. My brother and I were both very self conscious about our bodies and we wore "street clothes" over our suits all the time. I also burn very easy, so I wore tshirts all the time. We never had a problem related to it.
You can also buy your kids "protective" suits to swim in. They are made for swimming, but have longer arms and legs. They protect the kids from UV exposure.
I am pasting some links below with examples. Good luck! :)
If you use chlorine I would think it would damage their clothes - maybe a white t-shirt over their suit would be best.
The only thing I can think of is detergent residue, and if there is enough will foam on the top of the pool. Your pool has cholorine in it and with enough exposure will bleach and weaken the fibers in the clothes.
And remember, their wet clothing weighs alot, so for safety reasons, I would not let anyone swim in anything more than a light tshirt and shorts.
The chlorine bleach can fade their clothes, especially denim.
The chlorine will bleach their clothes, but won't hurt the pool.
The clothing will get "bleached out" and the colors will fade. Just let them wear older clothing or the same thing each time they swim.
