Swamp cooler or evaporative cooler, what can you tell me about them?

Question:I have lived with ac all my life, and now I have a swamp cooler. I turned it on last night and it did not seem to cool things down much. What am I doing wrong? I turned on the fan, and the water...it was not humid outside, so it should work, right?

Answers:
First of all you should have a fair amount of windows open to allow the air to flow, you can channel the air to the rooms that you want cooled off bye opening the windows in that room allowing the air to flow towards those windows that are open. Swamp coolers lose their usefullness when it hit 100 degrees. The thing to remember when using a cooler is the theory of evaporation, when water evaporates it pulls the heat from the air around it so when this air blows over you it is evaporating moister off the suface of your skin which pulls the heat away from your body, so sweating is to be exspected. also coolers are a high maintenance appliance and should be serviced 0nce if not twice a year, you wont regret it.

A swamp cooler will not get as cold as a central air system. If that is what you are used to you will definately notice a difference. Do you have your windows cracked? all of you windows should be open about 3 inshed to get proper flow with a swap cooler. But, even with that, you will not really get "cold".
ac is best for humidity.swamp is best for dry heat.
