Push lawn mower engine sputtering?
Question:I cleaned the carb and it runs fine for a while then starts to sputter as if fuel clogged. Sometime it rights itself. throttle does not seem to be working now. It just sputters along as if on lower throttle setting. Adding gas to the carb manually gets it to run well until the gas I put in the carb is gone and then back to sputtering which is why I think it is fuel flow. But other than cleaning the carb I have not gone deeper into the thing. Any ideas? Grass is getting long.
Answers:
dump, water out where float is and ajust float and clean check needle valve. if mower is 1 year or older change air filter and gas line filter
You say you cleaned the carb which is good. Have you changed the sparkplug?
Also if the grass you are mowing is too high, that could be the problem right there, especially if you are using a mulching blade and not bagging.
If it is the height of the grass that is the problem, bag it just this once as you go, to get the height down to a managable level in future mows.

Missed that part about the throttle there on my first read. Well two more things to check are the intake on the fuel line in the gas tank(for clogs) and of course to see why the throttle isn't working.
perhaps condensation is built up in you gas tank,or there is water in the gas that is already in your mower
the carb needs to me rebuilt. A rebuild kit is about 5 bucks, but if your not handy an that relm, having it done for you, may be around 50 or so bucks
might be crud in the fuel tank partially plugging the fuel line
Sounds like you haven't changed your fuel filter in awhile.
Most mowers also have a screen in the bottom of the fuel tank where the valve is screwed in to the bottom. Check that, too.
you may have multiple problems as indicated by other answers if your mower is fairly new you may have a problem with the automatic safety kill switches, if cable to safety lock bar is stretched or not adjusted properly it could be causing the problem but i am betting on a pin hole in the carb float from corrosion letting the float cause your problems remove float from carb and shake to see if fluid inside if so replace float
How long has it been since you did an oil change ??
Check to make sure your gas cap is venting.
Also the clean carb is one thing and a hole in the diaphram is another and it causes that too.
