I have a soleus ky32 u air con.IT MADE APOPPING noise when i turned it on then went dead .?
Question:Ichecked the fuses they seem okay .I am getting juice to the black & white wires inside the machine.
Answers:
The compressor capacitor may have popped, or one of the control relays, or the circuit board itself.
Check the microfarads or continuity of the Capacitor.
Unplug the unit and pull the circuit board and look on the back side for black soot or signs of an open circuit.
The relays will have to be tested with the unit energized.
If the PTAC is over 10 years old, drop a buck and get a new one.
Will cost more to repair than a new unit, unless you can DIY.
Keep on Koolin'
you can check a capacitor with an ohm meter,if you don't get any reading its bad, try hooking the ohm meter to the capacitor and then switch the connection, the meter should go up and then back down, you can usually tell if a capacitor is bad by looking at it, it will be cracked,or leaking oil,or the terminals will be broken off,but i susppect that you have a burnt compressor, check under the cap where the wires go into it if the terminal are burnt lose its junk, you have to be EPA certified to replace a compressor,or even buy one,so if it's a window unit it would be cheaper to find a new one, otherwise check the controls for burnt connections
