If you put books into an outside storage unit for 2 months in the summer, will it ruin them?

Question:My boyfriends staying with me til he gets his own place, and he wants to bring his whole freakin bookshelf and all his books because he swears they'll be destroyed if he puts them into storage. I think he's full of crap,

Answers:
The linked page gives some pointers on how to store books. It looks like the two major variables are temperature and moisture. I'd be more concerned about moisture, given the possibility of mold or mildew growth. If there's no climate control on the unit, or if there's nothing in it to help keep the humidity constant (like a dessicant), the books could get damaged.

He is full of crap. Just put them in one of those Rubbermaid storage totes, and they will be fine. You can get the from Wal-Mart, K-Mart, or even Target. They are no that expensive.
