To all you plumbers out there?
Question:For some reason the bath plug will not stay in the plug hole. Its as if there's something underneath popping it back out again. The one we have is a metal with a rubber ring on the inside. Thinking it was the plug at fault we bought a bog standard rubber one which does exactly the same. No one can bath unless we block the thing with a flannel, which doesn't last long anyway.
Any ideas?

The item you are describing is called the waste and overflow drain assembly. A complete new one is about $12-$20, and is easy to install. Good luck!
Buy a flat "sink" stopper. About $1.50
go to the back of the tub, where the access for the plumbing is, and check the connection for the toggle that raises and lowers the drain stopper, make sure it is ok. Even if it is or is not ok, disconnect it completely, pull it out of the drain, and go with a flat or round stopper that fits the hole correctly, this will make you feel more comfortable. BUT, be sure to place a hair-gunk strainer there, so you do not get a clog. No matter how much you think you do not shed or have any loss of hair or other fuzzies from clothes or bedding, it goes down the drain faster than you can see it.
You are right, there is something pushing the plug out and this is pressure. You possibly have a slight blockage in the drain and if another appliance is connected to the same one IE: washing machine, dishwasher or sink unit, then when this drains the pressure pushes the plug in the bath out.Buy a liquid drain cleaner and put it down your bath waste, including the overflow, good luck
I would say theres a problem with the grating.Thats the receiving part of the plug hole. If this problem was there from the initial installation get the grating replaced.
Sounds like a blockage in the drain outside, do you get gurgling noises from the wastes. There has to be a certain amount of air pressure pushing the plug out.
Or it could be that both plugs dont fit properly.
