What is the best hardwood floor cleaner out there? Just uncovered red oak after 45 years under carpet. So Cool
Question:My mom just moved in with us a month ago after my dad passed away and we are in the process of putting her house on the market to sell. They lived in the house for over 40 years and have always had wall to wall carpet throughout the house. The house was built in the late 1930's and I wasn't sure what was under the carpet, but I had a good idea. I ripped the corner of the carpet up a couple of months ago and hit the motherload! It's red oak and in excellent condition after being covered for over 45 years. There are just a few spots where it has mildewed and stained a much darker color and without having to redo the entire floor I was wondering what there is out there to get those kinds of wood stains out. Any ideas??
Answers:
I would use Old English. It works miracles on any age of wood.
I don't think there are any cleaners for hardwood that will remove or lighten just spots.
Use a solution of 1 cup white vinegar to one gallon of water. Spot cleaning works the best, cleaning a small area at a time, and immediately buffing dry with a dry rag. Repeat as necessary.
