Does anyone know why the wall switch in my bedroom turns off all of the outlets in the room?

Question:This is really annoying because my alarm clock is shut off if I use the switch. Thanks.

Answers:
certainly helps save electricity, just one switch and all your lights and other electricals go off.

More houses should be wired like that to help save the planet

Just the way that it is wired. You will have to get someone to rewire so that they stay hot and just the light is on that curcuit. That was a practice in older houses where people more used lamps in rooms.
Typically, it only shuts off half the socket (where you would normally plug in lamps. Try plugging your alarm clock in the socket above or below where it is now. Our bedrooms are all wired this way, so it's probably pretty common.
The room is wired that way--change the plug to another socket. If it is in the bottom --change and put it in the top. of the plug on the wall. Then you will know not to put thing in the sock unless you want he light to on when you turn the switch on.
Obviously miswired. Or the switch is only for outlets. Does this switch affect a light?
That's the way the electrician put it. I had to switch the one in my living room to constantly hot because it annoyed the sh*t out of me. I then put in a fixture thats being controlled by the switch.
If you want to remedy the problem, get an electrician in to rewire the outlets to be hot from the panel.
