I like the insinkerator models. If you want something that will last- get an evolution compact disposer. It has a Stainless steel grinding chamber 3/4 horse motor. It will last you a long time. $180 at home depot / Lowe's online $150 plus delivery.
The badgers unit is OK if you don't care if it lasts a long time they will rust out in a few years due to the fact that the grinding chamber is galvanized steel. $80 - $100

I don't know best brand but have shopped around at home depot and menards, etc. A mid range model (standard for an apt or condo) is about $80-$100.
