Installing hard-wired smoke detectors?
Question:I have a 2 floor home with a basement. The 1st and 2nd fllor smoke detectors are hard-wired and the 2 basement detectors are not connected to the system. How hard is it to make the basement detectors hard-wired and connect to the others?
I will have an Electrician do the work, just wondering if it is a quick fix or a major job.
Answers:
You nave to run a three conductor cable, NM 15-3 between the nearest detector and all that will be added and put in new detectors, they are about $12 each.
no it is not a major job, just a matter of running the wire, before you do this, you want a system that has a battery back up,if you lose your power, you lose your early warning
the basement detectors could be wired separately from the other floors, the are just detectors wired in parallel, with a battery backup.
Wire them in series
