My washing machine isn't draining out the water.?
Question:It is kind of old but not really old(4-5 yrs). and the warranty has expired. It is the kind with the agitator in the middle and it's a whirlpool. what should i do to fix it?
Answers:
I have a 3-4 yr old Whirlpool washing machine that did the same thing last month. Will yours spin or agitate at all? If it's the same issue (which apparently is common with Whirlpool because they make crappy appliances anymore), it's a minor part that's broken. I can't remember the part name, but it took the repair guy like 10 minutes tops to replace the broken part. It was black and white and looked like it belonged on my record player. To save money, call a local handyman, not the Whirlpool people; I think I paid this guy $45, and that was high because we live in the sticks... If nothing else, try Whirlpool's website http://www.whirlpool.com/home.jsp. Good luck!
With a late model Whirlpool, the most common problem is going to be a lid switch that is bad. Take the model number to a parts store to get the right one.
Sounds like the pump is not working. some have a belt (easier), some are attached directly to the spin shaft. They are on the bottom and at the back. You have to disconnect the washer, pull it out, empty the water, flip it upside down, and try to figure out what is wrong. Or you can buy a used one that is guaranteed for a month.
First of all, a 4-5 year old Whirlpool isn't old.
If, when it's in pump-out (spin), the washer DOES make sounds, there is probably something clogging the hose going to the pump. Pair of panties, children's sock, anything relatively small. This will be BEFORE the pump. You'll have to remove the cabinet from the front (easy job), remove the hose going TO the pump, and check it out.
If, when it's in pump-out (spin), the washer just has a faint hum, the pump is probably locked down (pair of panties, children's sock, anything relatively small). Replace the pump.
If, when it's in pump-out (spin), the washer is quiet, the lid switch is broken. Very common problem. Replace the lid switch.
Don't automatically think 'clog'. These washers, while relatively loud machines, are very common-sense workhorses. Clogging is rare.
It could be as bad lid switch, bad timer not engaging the drain cycle, bad pump or belt, or maybe you have a clogged drain hose.
I have had a same problem before. If you can get tyo your pump there may be a sock or something keeping the water from going out. Take the hose alose from the pump and clean out the pump. If that doesnt work check the belt if your pump is beli driven. the sock is most likely the culprit thought. and one more thing You may need to replace whatever drives your pump. all this is from past experience. hope i helped you
