What is the black foam and rotten egg smell that appeared while unclogging my tub drain?
Question:The drain was very clogged and it was taking about an hour for about 1 quart of water to drain out. I bought some household drain cleaner, but after I used it, I waited an hour, the drain was still clogged, and now a blackish foam has appeared around the drain and coming out of the round plate where the stopper lever used to be (it was replaced years ago with a screw-in rubber stopper). And there is now a strong odor of rotten eggs. What's going on??
Answers:
thats the gunk trapped in the pipes
and it will smell like this til ya get it cleaned..have ya tried using a plunger as well with the anti clog product you use?? try that
. it will smell nasty ..depending on how long this has accumulated in the drain an also the chemical reaction to the anti clog product youve used..the black is the gunk as well after the product u used to unclog the drain has gotten to it..its dissolving the clog..like hair and other crap..nasty yes but other than this get a plumber which is costly or drain the pipe and take thenm off and clean them by hand..good luck
hydrogen sulfide. i need more inffo for the rest. homeremodeler00@yahoo.com
Anaerobic bacteria are digesting the contents (mostly hair) of your drain. The bacteria produce carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulphide as biproducts. The CO2 causes the foaming, the H2S causes the smell.
