Any Possible Way to Fix the "Creaking" in my Floor?
Question:It's driving me and my neighbors crazy. After I tear up the carpet, what do I do?
Answers:
Ok, you tore up the carpet, now, get some "break-away" screws and screw down into the floor joists, so that you "screw down" the loose floorboards, and that will stop the squeak.
Now, if you can get to the bottom of it, (under the floor), then shove some wedges up under the boards, and screw them down, and that will stop the squeeks.
I wish you well...

Drive screws through the floor into the joists below. The floor was probably nailed and now the nails are pulling.
get shoes that that have thick soft soles.. walk softly to avoid making the floor creak
Floorboards usually creak because the wood moves up and down the on the metal nails
The usual way to stop the creaking is to drill holes through the board near the nails so that you can put screws through the board and into the 'joists' underneath - screw up tight and stop the floorboard moving.
BUT BUT BUT - be VERY CAREFUL where you drill - floorboards will have electric cables and waterpipes under them - and you do not want to drill into one of those.
OK enough with the screwed down answers and floor wedges . Just try applying some baby powder between the cracks,
if its a newer home and u can get under the floor like a crawl space you can tighten up the screws in the floor brackets.
that's if you can get to them. otherwise check the floor closely to find where the creaks are and screw em back down.
baby powder is a temporary fix.
