Whats wrong with my pool now?

Question:I backwashed and rinsed the filter according to the directions on the filter. I then set the valve back to "filter". About ten minutes later, I notice the pool is filled with green foam?! I shut the filter off, skimmed what I could and turned it back on. Now the water from the filter going into the pool is almost white, its so cloudy. I noticed that it wasn't cloudy though. It's packed with tiny air bubbles.

The filter is running at the proper pressure and this didn't happen the last time I backwashed it. I did just add a lot of algaecide, but I don't see how that has anything to do with it. I tested the water from the filter and it is at proper ph and chlorine levels.

Answers:
It very likely is the algaecide. Some of them, particularly the $4.99-a-gallon-type, cause foaming when too much is added to the water. This also sometimes happens when the proper amount is used, and calcium hardness is low in the water (the low hardness makes the water more susceptible to foaming.) Have your water harness checked and adjust that as necessary; also, a little de-foamer may help the problem for now. In the future, try a non-foaming algaecide. (one name brand, for example, is Leslie's Algae Control... but any other brand of the same type- the 60% algaecide will do...)

some algeacides cause a foaming reaction if even just a little too much is put in. as long as all the chem levels are in balance, i wouldn't worry. it will go away in a few days on its own.
