How can I find an HVAC tech?
Question:We need to put freeon in our AC unit at home and have the coils cleaned (not impacted). I'm looking for someone who can do it rather inexpensively until we can afford a new AC. Anyone know who I can call? Thanks for your time and information.

Do your homework before letting somebody touch your system.
There are a lot of crooks out there. Some companies will add a ton of refrigerant just to charge you more. Others will take some out and charge you for adding some then you will call them back when the system runs like crap and they will tell you your system is junk and they will help you finance a new one.
Ask your friends who they use call the BBB check with the state contractors board.
No idea where you live, but just look in Yahoo Yellow Pages for HVAC and call them. Ask how much they charge per pound of refrigerant (freeon is no longer used).
Most companies will have a maintenance plan that will help you out here-they will clean your whole unit and put in usually up to 2 lbs refrigerant (after 2 lbs they will charge you) for a set price-it should be around $60 for a one time maintenance.Good Luck!
all techs need a special license to add freon if needed. you can have a general-tech review or pm the unit at a much lower cost.
as to source someone.check www.craigslist.org they have an assortment of peps on alot of cities.

Try that thing they at your door or driveway several times a year. I think they call it THE YELLOW PAGES. If you didn't keep a phone book, try a search on your computer for local HVAC people.
ASKJ your friends, family, neighbors who they use. If all else fails, try the Yellow Pages and get at least two estimates. Make sure the people are licensed and certified.
