Is it bad to lay a refrigerator on its side?

Question:

Answers:
Yes. I used to move furniture and appliances for a living. There are fluids inside the fridge and if you lay it on its side they move around where they aren't supposed to be. It may not ruin the fridge but if you must lay it on it's side let it sit upright for 12-24 hours prior to plugging it back in.

yes because it wont work right
It's ok to lay it on it's side for a minute or two, but the oil in the compressor will begin to pool, and when it's turned back on, the oil will not be where it needs to be, and you'll damage the compressor. If you transport it on it's side, it's best to let it sit upright for 24 hours to make sure the oil is where it needs to be.
yeah, for each hour on it's side, you need 24 hrs of it standing upright before you plug it in and let it run. something about the compressor
Only if you plug it in immediately. If you move a fridge or freezer in any position other than upright wait 24 hours after its back upright before plugging it in.
no it wont hurt the fridge as long as you let it sit upright for around 24 hrs to allow the compressor oil to flow back into the compressor
not that it's bad but if at all possible standing it up is better, if you have to lay it on it's side just let it set for about 24 hours beforie using
You can lay it on it's side and like others have said stand upright for 24 hours before running. However, I have seen in the wall oil cooling loops crack after a ref has been laid on it's side rendering the unit junk. It is fairly rare but it does happen, especially if it is older. Lay on side at own risk - transport upright if at all possible.
If you put the fridge on its side the oil and liquid refrigerant move out of where they need to be. Once the fridge is upright, leave it off and unplugged for 24 hours. That will ensure the oil and refrigerant would have migrated back to the compressor sump. If you start it without waiting the time, it will be the same as running your car's engine without oil. Yeah, exactly. Just be careful to not bend any lines while you're moving it.
Only in the sense that it is harder to open the door.
