What does it mean when moisture collects near the outside of the freezer door of my fridgerator?
Question:Should I be concerned? I have the freezer set to 4 to save energy, and I think the directions suggest 5.
Answers:
OK heres the thing all of you others answering this question arent really answering the question at all.
If the unit is new as you say it is call for warranty work, its free... Let us pros take care of it not just some DIY that have seen a problem once in thier lives and think that they know how to work on and diagnose a fridge problem
Your seal is letting cold air from the freezer into the room causing condensation (moisture). If every thing still freezes, it might not be a problem
There is a door seal that goes all the way around the door of your freezer. This seal is made of rubber and over time will lose its ability to seal the opening.
The reason you are getting moisture is because the cold, dry air escaping from your freezer is hitting warm, moist air and is creating a "cold front" right there.
You can get a new door seal from an appliance repair place and replace it yourself, or call an appliance repair company and have them do it.
You have bad insulation, so enough cold leaks to condense the moisture in the air. You may have to replace the door gasket. ~
It is simply condensation (water collection) around the outside, like a glass of iced tea on a summer day, and it gets so cold, it freezes... that's all. do not try to chip it off... turn off the fridge and let it melt. ok?
hope I helped. the setting depends upon the conditions... winter, less, summer more.. keep it as high as needed to keep the food in recommended temperatures...
